What were the issues you had with these projects that you’ve been wanting to resolve?
We needed to localize PRTG, our award-winning network monitoring software product, to enter the Japanese market. We initially worked with another language service provider with whom we had collaborated in the past. After some time, it became apparent that their Japanese translators did not have the technical knowledge to accurately translate our user interface strings. As a network monitoring solution, PRTG strings contain related technical nomenclature, and this was being translated erroneously. The translators also seemed reluctant to approach us to get feedback on strings that lacked context or were unclear.
How did you find our translation services? What made you decide to work with us?
Paessler is a very international company, with over 40 different nationalities represented amongst employees. Contact was first established following a tip from a Japanese colleague. Our colleague, who had also helped us carry out quality checks on the strings, had a positive impression of Kawamura and suggested we collaborate on an initial review of the existing translation. The team at Kawamura was always available to answer our questions from both a practical and technical standpoint and seemed very engaged, exchanging information regularly about our product and UI so to reach the best possible translation of strings. This made us certain that working with Kawamura was right for us.
How do you feel about our deliverables and translation services that we have provided?
The service that Kawamura has provided over the years has been exceptional. We feel that there has been a genuine desire to collaborate and notable effort in offering us the most accurate translations possible. The translators clearly have the technical knowledge we require and are familiar with common IT and network administration nomenclature. We appreciate that when strings are unclear or too far out of context, efforts are made to get feedback from us. This ensures that a suitable solution is always found for our Japanese users. Work is on time and pricing is clear.
What do you expect from us in the future of our collaboration?
Paessler is currently undergoing an exciting period of change following an strategic investment by an American fund. We hope that Kawamura will continue to accompany us as we further develop and improve PRTG.
To whom/what company would you recommend us?
We would generally recommend Kawamura for the personalized service, project punctuality and interest in maintaining an open exchange of information to obtain best translation results. However, it is the technical IT knowledge that has placed Kawamura translations above others. We would therefore strongly recommend Kawamura to companies operating in the IT and software sectors.
